A museum and science center in an old industrial environment
Our proposal "Lumo" for the architectural competition for the new Oulu Museum and Science Centre complements the old Åström red-brick factory area. Treated with pine tar, the clean featured building mass evokes the impression of a glowing piece of charcoal.

Old and new
The core of the competition entry's architecture is based on a high lobby space. The lobby design cuts through the building, and impressively highlights the wooden architecture of the interior, connections to the surrounding urban space and the building's internal connections. The layout of the museum building on the plot will create new, inviting squares and connect it to the cultural environment of the area.
